3M™ Speedglas™ 617820 Helmet with G5-01TW Welding Filter & Adflo™ Respirator
3M Speedglas have been conducting extensive research into designing a welding helmet that is constructed to be reliable and extremely adaptable to a welder’s needs and situation. The result of their research is the G5-01 Welding Helmet. Built for heavy-duty, high-amperage welding and grinding, the G5-01 Welding Helmet connects to the 3M Adflo Powered Air Respirator to deliver TH3-rated protection.
The G5-01 has two auto-darkening filter options, both with 3M Speedglas natural colour technology, with greater clarity before, during and after welding. Both filters are also designed to minimise eye strain when switching from a dark to a light state, by using an intermediate shade (5 or 7).
Human eyes aren’t designed for handling rapid transitions from dark to light to dark again – which describes tack welding perfectly! The G5-01TW welding filter uses an intermediate shade 5 light state to help minimise eye strain during extended tack welding applications. If an arc is not struck within 2 seconds the welding filter will switch back to its normal light state (shade 3).
With the helmet’s new duct system, users can direct the airflow to either their face (1) or visor (2), as well as the amount of air coming from the top outlet (3) vs. the two side outlets(4). With greater control over personalised settings, users can balance the airflow’s cooling effect while minimising flows that might dry out their nose or eyes.

This flip-up functionality allows you to seamlessly switch between welding and grinding tasks while maintaining powered air respiratory protection. The clear visor also allows you to set up, inspect and move around the workpiece without the need to remove the face protection or break the positive pressure respiratory seal.
