Böhler Avesta 316L is a rutile-coated, core wire alloy electrode of type E 19 12 3 L R / E316L-17. It has been specifically developed for welding thin-walled pipes and sheets, particularly in the chemical process and paper industries. It is extremely suitable for welding in challenging positions and field conditions; in these situations, it offers significantly higher efficiency compared to manual TIG welding. Böhler Avesta 316L is recommended for multi-pass welding of 1.4404 and 1.4436 / 316L type stainless steels in root pass and general fabrication applications.

The weld metal exhibits good resistance to general corrosion, pitting corrosion, and inter-granular corrosion in chloride-containing environments (e.g., in dilute hot acid applications). The scaling (oxidation) temperature in air is approximately 850°C . The maximum operating temperature is 400°C . Furthermore, high corrosion resistance stands out as one of the most important advantages of Böhler Avesta 316L.
